Todays wip & my workspace

Look, how tidy and organised I am when I'm crafting...

(I am being sarcastic by the way!)

I know, I'm messy!. I'm like
Monica from 'Friends', obsessive when it comes to coasters and crumbs, always hoovering. But, my work room is a bit like Monica's closet!

Anyway, here's this mornings wip, now finished, hedgehog pattern slightly adjusted, am much happier with this version.

And, as I was photographing my desk, I wanted to show you my favorite thing on it (apart from the bar of yummy swiss chocolate I've just finished eating!), my little dish of buttons I use for eyes and noses.

They look good enough to eat too!

Oops, forgot to mention...

...the other big news in Lucykate land, Floyd has become a Dad!

Father & Son,

These two will be be part of the first shop update, which will happen, (I promise!) as soon as I've finished making everything, improved my photography, and worked out how to upload to Etsy.

(so, not that much to do then!)

Butterflies, and other stuff,

Another new pattern , this time for a brooch, being tried out, leaf needs working on still, not happy with this attempt, but in the meantime, the plan is now to test drive it and see how well it survives on my jacket!

...and, here's a sneaky peek of my valentine swap, errrr, thingy! (shhh, it's a secret), excellent swap organised by the lovely Lucy Locket.

The big news in Lucykate land, is I have managed to get myself the last place on a Julie Arkell workshop being held on the 2nd February, here, in my home town! The list arrived this morning as to what I have to bring, looks like a bit of a thrifting trip is going to be needed (any excuse!) for some of the bits & bobs, old books, fabrics etc...

I'm so excited!

Herbie the baby hedgehog

(or does he look more like a stegosaurus than a hedgehog?!)

While the others were watching the Simpsons Movie this afternoon (spider pig, spider pig...), I got to try out a new pattern I drew up last night whilst Mr LK was upgrading my mac operating system software. Herbie still needs a few tweaks here and there, but went ok for a first attempt, maybe the body needs to be shorter though?

It looks like the first lot of softies to put on Etsy are all having a 'farm' theme. I quite like the idea of each update having a theme!

Quick, it's stopped raining...

...there is a little bit of light (not fantastic light, but in this weather, one can't be choosy!), get the camera out!

Meet Floyd, the farm dog,

now, Floyd didn't start out as a dog, his body was invloved in a slightly misguided attempt at a larger owl (which didn't work!), but since, has turned out to be much more successful, after a change of ears and eyes.

Am playing around with patterns at the moment and building up some stock ready to put on Etsy. I don't know what is harder, designing new patterns or working out pricing!, any tips on the money side of Etsy would be greatly apprieciated.

This larger owl is much improved!

(Can you tell, I'm still obsessed with that farm fabric)

And, today, the postman has been good to me, two parcels, one with more of those mini buttons I use as eyes, and another from the very lovely Corry at Dutch Blue. Corry won one of the owls in the giveaway and has sent a fabulous pile of fat quarters, some buttons and some really sweet windmill trim, thank you so much Corry, what a lovely surprise!

P.S, if, like me, you are a big fan of softies, check out the new group blog, The Needle, there is some amazing work being showcased there.

Best laid plans,

Barn Owl no.1

...the first of many as I love that farm fabric so much (and there's a fair bit left yet to use!)

I'm not totally happy with this first one, but it's all part of the design process and I am working towards getting some items together to put in my first Etsy shop update.

And, talking of the design process, it doesn't always go to plan, does it? Here are two discarded elephants that weren't quite right, but I can't bring myself to take them apart just yet, maybe when I next run out of stuffing!

Question, how do you photograph your new camera, in its handmade case...

...when you want to use said camera, to take the photograph?. Easy, you need a stunt camera!

Voila!, plus new crafty reading material...

'This is for You', by Rob Ryan, was my anniversary present from Mr LK. We have been married for ten years but together for twenty on christmas eve.

Camera case has been made from the wool jumper I felted a few weeks back, it is lovely and thick. Blanket stitched edge, with a felt flower and button to hide the press stud fastening.
